Crescent Innovation & Incubation Council is the innovation arm of B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology(BSACIST), Chennai. CIIC has been established as a Section-8, not for profit company and acting as a “One Stop Shop – Technology Business Incubator (TBI)” for startups. BIONEST, BIRAC, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India is supporting CIIC with a total grant amount of Rs. 1.8 Cr. Startup India, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, GoI has selected for STARTUP INDIA SEED FUND SCHEME (SISFS) for an amount of Rs. 5 Crore for disbursing seed funds to the aspiring sector agnostic startups across India. Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA), Ministry of Education, GoI has ranked BSACIST under Band A (6-25) through the support of CIIC. Also BSACIST has received a 5-star rating for Institutional Innovation Council, Ministry of Education, Govt of India within a year of operation.
CIIC supports 75 startups with 20 student startups, 10 faculty startups, 6 alumni startups and 39 external start-ups. More than 450 people found employment opportunities through CIIC startups. CIIC emphases the mantra ‘patents to start-ups’ and have supported 60 patents processing out of which 40 are from University exclusively. Through government, seed grants CIIC startups have raised Rs. 5.06 Cr. and Rs. 41.7 Cr. of private investment funds. As per the survey by Biospectrum Magazine, CIIC Bio-incubator has positioned 3rd place in India. CIIC is recognized by the European Commission for collaborative projects and soft landing of startups in either country.
